Skeylja was the Artist in Residence project for the Oerol Festival in 2012, on the island of Terschelling, in the Dutch part of the Wadden Sea. It was a collaboration between The Alvaret Ensemble and the Icelandic musicians Kira Kira, Eríkur Ólafsson, Ingi Erlendsson and Borgar Magnason, and the Dutch video collective 33 1/3. The album was recorded live at the festival over eight nights of impro performances in the oldest church of the isle.
